AN TAIBHDHEARC
Teanga. Tírdhreach. Oidhreacht.
An Taibhdhearc was founded with the help of Michael Mac Liammóir and Hilton Edwards. Its archive reveals its place as a cornerstone of Irish arts for almost 100 years (since 1928). In 2024, it received €5.78 million in state funding to support a bold new programme through 2027 – backing Irish-speaking artists, new work, and ambitious productions touring across the country to audiences fluent, learning, or Gaeilge-curious. We’re proud to support An Taibhdhearc, Ireland’s National Language Theatre. This isn’t just theatre. It’s cultural reclamation. As Muireann Kelly, Artistic Director of An Taibhdhearc, told RTÉ “Irish-language theatre is more important now than ever.” From a sold-out tour of Dathanna Geala Amháin earlier this year to this summer’s Beckett sa Chreig: Guth na mBan – a landmark Irish-language production featuring four of Samuel Beckett’s most powerful short works performed together for the first time in Irish, An Taibhdhearc is driving a modern Irish-language theatre revival – just in time for its centenary in 2028.
